The Laboratory for Architectural Research and Design is a network of multidisciplinary designers based in New York City. Our design process is driven by dialogues between the past and present, familiar and strange, self and other, vice versa and et cetera. We believe in creating work that warrants and rewards curiosity, no matter the type or scale.

LARD has been involved in the design and construction of art installations and theatrical performances around the world.

Mark Zlotsky is the founder and principal of LARD. His passion is in merging the nonsense found in vernacular architecture with the structure behind theatrical performances to produce alternative forms and experiences. He is the recipient of the 2017 Stewardson Keefe LeBrun Travel Grant from the New York Center for Architecture. Mark graduated with his BArch from the Syracuse School of Architecture, where he received the University Scholar Award and the Luther Gifford Prize.
